The Supreme Court has granted certiorari in Lawson v. FMR LLC, which tests the limits of whistleblower protection under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The appellants are two former employees of a private corporate holding company that provided services for publicly-traded Fidelity. The employees had reported alleged wrongdoing, and one was subsequently fired while the other resigned. A federal appeals court ruled that the suit couldn't proceed because SOX whistleblowing provisions only cover employees of publicly traded companies. SCOTUS will hear the case in its 2013-2014 term
