Incase some know him personally, can we get his bank account number and other details.

If we all contribute even 50 Rs. In his account, he will have enough money to complete his CA course and he will be able to concentrate on his exams and studies. Also we will have hardworking Gem in our fraternity.

Let's not wait for him to collapse…..he not only needs emotional motivation but also financial motivation.

With Best Wishes

College Pavements Are His Stalls

Bangalore: Desperate times call for desperate measures. Ask C Chethan, a 23-year-old son of a farmer who is pursuing his CA here. He doesn't have enough money to pursue his studies so he decided to take matters into his own hands and become a writer, publisher and bookseller — all rolled into one. He's now trying to sell his novella on the footpaths here even as he studies in between.
It must have been an effort to juggle words along with numbers. Chethan completed his BCom from Shanthi College in Devapatna village in Mandya district before coming here. However, he found the going tough as he's one of six children and his family cultivates paddy and ragi back home. He's the only child of Channabasappa and Annapurnamma who managed a college education.
Knowing the situation back home, Chethan decided to became a writer and penned a Kannada novella Awwana Maatu(Mother's Word). Realizing the difficulties of getting a debut work published, he turned publisher and got a printer to run 1,000 copies of his work. That's not all. He found it difficult to break into the book market and turned bookseller too.
With no literary agent, he camps on the pavements of various colleges, hawking the bagful of capies of his fictional work.
One day it's before RC College, on another in front of Government Home Science College. The third day it's SKSJTI College, the fourth, KR Circle, and lastly, Maharani's Arts and Science College.
He sets up a banner announcing his book and its price — Rs 40 for students, Rs 80 for others. He then spreads them out and waits for prospective buyers. In between, he studies his CA books. His plaintive banner reads, "I have financial crisis, I have written a novel if you are interested. Please buy my novel. It will help in my career."
Awwana Maatu is about motherly love. "The protagonist is a village boy who goes to a city college to study. He confronts many problems and goes back disillusioned, when his mother intervenes," Chethan says.
He recalls the harrowing time he had looking for a publisher. "Nobody was ready to publish it in my hometown, Mandya. Finally, I found somebody in Bangalore after narrating my circumstances. After much bargaining, he agreed to print 1,000 books for Rs 25,000," Chethan says.
The author has made a small beginning. He's sold 20 copies. "The response from Bangalore colleges has been poor. So I plan to move to Mandya and Mysore," he says.
However, Chethan isn't giving up and plans to write four short stories. He loves reading Kannada novels. "My favourite writer is Poornachandra Tejaswi. I admire his style," he says.
With such grit, will success be far away?
